Claudia Sotelo's Professional PortfolioThere are several people and events who have hepled shaped who I once was and who I have become today. The earliest influences that I have been able to identify through the reflection of my life are my mother and father. They both heavily stressed the importance of learning and education, as they conveyed to me that the value of learning was learning itself. My love for education is never ending, and I couldnt find myself doing anything else more fullfilling than teaching.
I come from a small town, O'Donnell Texas, where I was raised for the first 15 yrs of my life before coming to Houston. I enjoy doing all sports, but my true joy is running and cycling. I believe that much wisdom is gained from seeing the world and through experiences, so traveling and experiencing new things is something I always try to keep on my agenda. I'm an adventurer at heart and a firm believer that all things are achieved through God. Currently I am teaching at River Oaks Baptist School where I have been an Educator in Preschool for five years. Our mission is to prepare our students to meet life's challenges and lead tomorrow's world through a superior educational program undergirded by faith in Jesus Christ and Christian Principles. I received my undergraduate from the University of Houston and currently seeking my M.Ed. in Reading Education from Houston Baptist University. |
Educational Philosophy
I look at every student as an individual, eager to gain knowledge and to be successful. Every child has talents and I hold the responsibility of creating the atmosphere for them to flourish. A good teacher is an individual who possesses an implicit understanding of developmental stages, respects individual learning styles, and is willing to go the extra mile to reach a student. I believe that that curiosity and the desire to be challenged reside deeply in all children, and when cultivated, leads students to a life-long engagement in learning.
It is our shared responsibility to prepare lifelong learners, who will become literate, self-disciplined, independent, creative, and confident individuals. I believe that education should build the foundations for diligence, integrity and positive attitude while empowering students to achieve academic success.
I believe it is a teacher’s job to motivate students because most of us are not born with some innate desire to seek out this information. From there, the teacher can mediate the learning environment and lead students to the path of discovery. The teachers who care are the ones who succeed!
